Telecom major Bharti Airtel announced on Monday that it has begun reallocating its existing mid-band spectrum to meet the surging demand for 5G traffic. As data usage continues to rise, Airtel is accelerating the re-farming of its spectrum to enhance the 5G experience for its customers.

The company is re-farming its mid-band spectrum to extend 5G services across its 1800, 2100, and 2300 MHz bands nationwide. Airtel’s recent pilot projects on the Standalone (SA) and Non-Standalone (NSA) 5G architectures conducted in Rewari, Chennai, and Bhubaneswar have yielded promising results.

This initiative will enable Airtel to offer innovative applications, services, and solutions through open APIs, differentiated connectivity, and a service-based architecture.

"As more customers transition to our 5G services, we have re-farmed our mid-band spectrum previously used for 4G. This move also positions us to launch stand-alone technology.

“With this advancement, Airtel will become the first network in India to operate in both standalone and non-standalone modes, ensuring we deliver the best possible experience in the market,” said Bharti Airtel CTO Randeep Sekhon.
